Amid widespread speculation and misinformation, the Presidency has reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is firmly guided by the principles of fairness, justice, and equity in the allocation of federal projects, appointments, and opportunities across all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
Contrary to claims of lopsided development, the Federal Government maintains that its projects reflect a balanced national development strategy, ensuring that no region is sidelined.
Equitable Infrastructure Distribution Nationwide
Data from the Presidency reveals that the Northwest leads in project approvals, receiving ₦5.97 trillion—over 40% of the total. Other allocations include:
- South-South: ₦2.41 trillion
- North-Central: ₦1.13 trillion
- South-East: ₦407 billion
- North-East: ₦400 billion
- South-West (excluding Lagos): ₦604 billion
These allocations reflect an effort to ensure equitable development across Nigeria’s regions.
Legacy Road Projects Under Tinubu
- Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway (750 km): 175 km ongoing in Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
- Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway (1,068 km): 378 km under construction in Kebbi and Sokoto.
- Trans-Sahara Highway (465 km): 118 km ongoing in Ebonyi.
- Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road (439 km): Redesigned for durability.
Out of the total length of these projects, the North accounts for 52% while the South has 48%, showing near-equal distribution.
Major Regional Projects
- North: Abuja–Kaduna–Kano dualisation (₦764bn), Sokoto–Gusau–Funtua–Zaria Road (₦824bn), Zaria–Hunkuyi Road, Kano Northern Bypass, Bama–Dikwa Roads, Benue–9th Mile Road ($958m), among others.
- South-West & Lagos: Lagos–Ibadan (₦33bn), Oyo–Ogbomoso–Ilorin (₦146bn), and rehabilitation of major Lagos bridges (₦120bn).
- South-East: Enugu–Onitsha dualisation (₦202bn via MTN Tax Credit), Enugu–Abakaliki Road, Lokpanta–Enugu Road, and access roads to the 2nd Niger Bridge.
- South-South: Eleme–Onne Road (₦156bn), East–West Road Section 2 (₦186bn), Bodo–Bonny Road (₦200bn), and Nembe–Brass Road (₦150bn).
Beyond roads, the administration is reviving rail networks, such as the Kano–Maradi line (now at 67%), Port Harcourt–Maiduguri Eastern Corridor, and metro projects in Lagos, Ogun, Kano, and Kaduna worth over ₦250 billion.
Power, Oil & Gas Expansion
President Tinubu’s administration has also revived the 255MW Kaduna Power Plant, pushed forward the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Project, and advanced oil exploration in the North, including drilling three new oil wells in the Kolmani region of Bauchi and Gombe States.
Balanced Appointments and Regional Development
The Presidency highlighted that federal appointments under Tinubu reflect competence, inclusivity, and regional balance. The creation of five new Regional Development Commissions and the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development underscore his determination to address Nigeria’s unique development needs across regions.
Renewed Hope Agenda in Action
The Federal Government insists that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is a unifying national vision, ensuring that infrastructure, jobs, and opportunities are equitably shared across all regions.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not building local trophies; he is building national infrastructure for all Nigerians,” a Presidency source emphasized.
With over 250,000 jobs expected from ongoing projects, the administration reassured citizens that no part of Nigeria will be left behind under Tinubu’s leadership.
