The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the recovery of a mini-bus driver found lifeless at the scene of a collision involving a mini-bus and a truck near the Lagos State Government Secretariat, inward Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, LASTMA General Manager Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki disclosed that the severe impact left the mini-bus driver trapped in the wreckage. The statement, signed by Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, highlighted the swift response from LASTMA officers, who immediately rescued other passengers, all of whom escaped unhurt.

Despite a collaborative rescue effort involving LASTMA, Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel, the driver was recovered lifeless from the wreckage. His remains were handed over to the FRSC by LASTMA officials.

Security operatives from the Alausa Police Division were on-site to provide protection during the rescue operation.

“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless driving,” Bakare-Oki stated. “We urge all road users to prioritize safety and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.”

LASTMA extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safer roads and reducing road accidents across Lagos State.
