The Lagos State Government has issued a strict warning to motorists against making illicit payments to touts for unauthorized parking on bridges and other restricted areas across the state.
Government’s Stand on Illegal Parking
Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, stressed that private vehicle owners must adhere to official road signs that mark “No Parking” zones to prevent congestion and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
He condemned the growing trend of motorists paying street urchins for illegal parking spaces, emphasizing that this practice worsens gridlock and disrupts urban order.
Hotspots for Illegal Parking in Lagos
Hon. Giwa identified several high-traffic areas notorious for illegal parking violations, including:
- Ebute-Ero
- Ejalonibu
- Adeniji-Adele
- Oyingbo
- Oworonsoki
- Iyana-Ipaja
- Medical Road (Computer Village area)
He noted that bridges and other restricted spaces in these locations are often clogged with illegally parked vehicles, causing major traffic bottlenecks.
Strict Enforcement & Consequences
Hon. Giwa reaffirmed that the Lagos State Government will not tolerate illegal parking or the patronage of touts. Motorists caught violating parking regulations—regardless of any payments made to touts—will face severe enforcement actions.
