The Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspected car thieves, recovered a stolen vehicle, and turned down a bribe of ₦1 million offered by the suspects in an attempt to escape justice.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the suspects—identified as Mubarak Kabir (26) and Adamu Hashim (27), both from Kurna Quarters in Fagge LGA of Kano State—were apprehended on April 11, 2025, at around 3:00 p.m. during a routine patrol near Birnin Kuka village in Mashi LGA, Katsina State.
Officers from Border Patrol Zone 4 flagged down a green Toyota Corolla LE being driven by the suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
“In an attempt to evade justice, the suspects offered the officers a cash bribe of one million naira, which was firmly rejected,” the statement said.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects included the stolen vehicle, ₦1,000,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and a bunch of keys. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full scope of their criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, praised the officers for their integrity and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of Katsina residents while maintaining respect for human rights and the rule of law.
