Kano State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Engr. Ahmad Ishaq Bunkure, the newly appointed Special Adviser on Works to Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf. Bunkure passed away on Tuesday in Egypt, just one day after his swearing-in ceremony.
The devastating news has left the state and its political community in shock. Bunkure, who was sworn in alongside other Special Advisers on Monday at the Ante Chamber of Government House, had been receiving medical treatment in Egypt when he succumbed to his illness.
In an official statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed deep sorrow, describing Bunkure’s passing as a significant loss to Kano State.
“This is a heartbreaking moment for us as a government,” the Governor stated. “Engr. Bunkure was a dedicated professional whose expertise was critical to our development vision. His untimely death has left an irreplaceable void.”
Governor Yusuf extended his condolences to Bunkure’s family, praying for divine mercy on his soul and strength for his loved ones to bear the immense loss.
Bunkure’s appointment was expected to play a key role in advancing the administration’s ambitious infrastructure development plans. His passing has elicited an outpouring of tributes from across the state, including from former Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Reports confirm that Bunkure had been battling an illness prior to his appointment and was undergoing medical care in Egypt when the swearing-in ceremony took place in his absence.
Kano State mourns the loss of a brilliant engineer and dedicated public servant, whose contributions to the state’s progress will be sorely missed.
