President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially announced the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. President Buhari died today in London at approximately 4:30 PM after a prolonged illness. In a heartfelt statement, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the late leader’s family, speaking directly with Mrs. Aishat Buhari, the former president’s widow.
To ensure a dignified return, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany President Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.
Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria as a democratically elected president twice, in 2015 and 2019, and was also the country’s military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985.
In honor of the late leader, President Tinubu has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast.
