The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the cancellation of the parade earlier scheduled to commemorate the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary on October 1, 2025.
The decision was disclosed in a statement on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
Government Apologises, Affirms Commitment to Celebration
According to the statement, the government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the cancellation but assured that the milestone anniversary will still be celebrated with “dignity and enthusiasm.”
“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary. The Federal Government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.
The government further confirmed that all other scheduled programmes under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” will go on as planned.
Public Holiday Remains in Effect
The announcement comes shortly after the Federal Government declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark the nation’s independence anniversary.
Call for Support of Tinubu’s Reforms
The government also used the occasion to urge Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, which it said is aimed at building “a greater and more prosperous nation.”
