In a groundbreaking initiative, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially made technical education completely free in all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) nationwide. This announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, during a press briefing in Abuja.
The move aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to provide equal access to quality education and eliminate financial obstacles for Nigerian students pursuing technical and vocational training.
According to Minister Alausa, the free education package goes far beyond just tuition. The Federal Government will cover the full cost of:
- Boarding and accommodation
- School uniforms and ID cards
- Textbooks and exercise books
- Stationery and prospectuses
- Vocational training fees
- Digital learning tools
- Medical services
- Security and utilities
- Extra lessons and student insurance
This bold step is designed to promote technical and vocational education and training (TVET), empower Nigerian youth with practical skills, and close the gap in access to STEM and hands-on learning opportunities.
By removing all financial barriers, the government hopes to increase enrollment in Federal Technical Colleges and equip students with the tools needed for employment, entrepreneurship, and national development.
