Robotic Dog “Spot” Joins US Secret Service to Patrol Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort

Boston Dynamics’ robotic dog, Spot, is now part of the US Secret Service’s cutting-edge security measures, recently seen patrolling the perimeter of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

What Is Spot?

Spot is an advanced robotic device that operates remotely or autonomously with pre-programmed routes. While unarmed, it features warning signs on its legs that read, “DO NOT PET,” underscoring its serious role in security operations.

Political scientist Melissa Michelson commented, “I don’t know that anyone is tempted to pet these robot dogs. They do not look cuddly.”

Viral Fame and Mixed Reactions

Videos of Spot patrolling Mar-a-Lago have gone viral on TikTok, sparking a mix of reactions. Some find the robot dogs fascinating and futuristic, while others describe them as eerie. The footage has even inspired jokes on American late-night TV. However, Spot’s mission is no joke.

Anthony Guglielmi, Chief of Communications for the US Secret Service, stated, “Safeguarding the president-elect is a top priority.”

Why Deploy Spot Now?

Security concerns have heightened after two assassination attempts targeting Trump in 2023. The Secret Service has not disclosed specific details about the deployment of robotic dogs, citing operational security. Boston Dynamics also confirmed Spot’s use but declined further comment.

Former Secret Service agent Ron Williams noted the robot’s effectiveness in expansive areas like Mar-a-Lago. “They can cover a lot more area than humans alone,” Williams said, adding that such technology will likely become more common in security operations.

Global Trend in Security

Spot’s adoption reflects a growing trend where militaries and law enforcement agencies worldwide use robotic technology to enhance security, surveillance, and threat detection.
