Portable Remanded in Ilorin Prison Over Defamation Case Filed by Fuji Star Saheed Osupa

Controversial Nigerian street-pop artist, Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet the strict bail conditions imposed by an Upper Area Court on Monday, April 14, 2025.

Portable Arraigned for Defaming Fuji Icon Saheed Osupa on Instagram Live

The “Zazoo Zeh” crooner was arraigned following a criminal defamation suit filed by veteran Fuji musician Okunola Saheed, popularly known as Saheed Osupa. The lawsuit stems from an Instagram live session in which Portable allegedly made slanderous and threatening comments aimed at Osupa.

“This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense,” Portable allegedly said in the video. He also accused Osupa of removing his songs from Apple Music and Spotify.

Bail Set at N1 Million, But Portable Fails to Meet Conditions

Although bail was granted at N1 million, Portable failed to satisfy the court’s bail terms, which included:

  • Two sureties in like sum
  • One surety must be the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN)
  • The second must be a property owner in Ilorin’s GRA, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy

Due to the inability to meet these conditions, Portable was remanded pending further proceedings.

Arrested in Abeokuta After Police Petition

The First Information Report (FIR), filed under Section 117(1) of the CPC, was submitted to the Kwara State Police Command via a petition from Osupa dated March 21, 2025. According to SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the singer was arrested in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, April 13, under a valid arrest warrant.

“The suspect confessed to the allegations during police interrogation, in the presence of legal representatives,” said the police spokesperson.

Charges and Legal Implications

Portable now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Criminal defamation
  • Incitement to violence
  • Character assassination
  • Threat to life
  • Conduct likely to breach public peace

The court has adjourned the case while Portable remains in custody at the Ilorin correctional facility until his bail conditions are met.
