The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Fatima Salisu, a 21-year-old woman allegedly involved in arms trafficking operations across key local government areas in the state.
Salisu, a native of Funtua, Katsina State, was intercepted by law enforcement officers in the Azuba area of Lafia Local Government Area while allegedly transporting a large cache of ammunition. According to police reports, the ammunition was being moved through Keana and Doma LGAs and was intended for delivery to criminal elements in Katsina State.
Speaking on the arrest, the spokesperson for the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, stated:
“Acting swiftly on a credible intelligence report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima J. Mohammed, directed the immediate deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The unit successfully apprehended the suspect and recovered a total of 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.”
The police described the operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against illegal arms trafficking and criminal activities in the region.
Nansel emphasized that the Nasarawa State Police Command remains committed to dismantling arms smuggling networks and urged members of the public to provide timely and actionable information to assist ongoing security efforts.
“This arrest is a significant step in our efforts to curb the spread of illegal weapons. We encourage citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies,” he added.
