Police Arrest Three Suspects for Stealing iPhones from Lagos Accident Victims

Three individuals were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Wednesday for allegedly stealing two iPhones from victims involved in a road accident in Ikeja.

In a statement shared on X.com, the RRS confirmed the suspects were apprehended shortly after the crash while attempting to flee the scene with the stolen phones.

Details of the Incident

According to the police, the accident occurred on Governor’s Road, Alausa, Ikeja, when a red Toyota Camry 2010, traveling towards Ikeja, lost control and crashed into a road divider near the Adeyemi Bero end of the road. Instead of assisting the injured victims, the suspects, identified as Isaiah Adegbenro (38), Edet Johnson (30), and Efe Sowemimo (28), were seen looting the vehicle and the victims’ belongings.

The thieves made off with two high-value iPhones: an iPhone 15, worth N1,300,000, and an iPhone 12, valued at N620,000.

Swift Action by the Police

Following a tip-off, RRS operatives in the area pursued the suspects, apprehending them just meters from the crash site. The stolen iPhones were recovered from their possession, and the suspects were taken into custody.

The statement further revealed that the RRS operatives assisted the accident victims by transporting them to a hospital and clearing the wrecked vehicle from the road.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action

The three suspects have made substantial confessions, and they are set to be charged in court under the directives of CSP Shola Jejeloye, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad.

The swift response by the Lagos State Police highlights their commitment to tackling crime and providing assistance during emergencies.
