Tragedy struck the Kuchibiyi community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, as an explosion at an Islamiyyah school claimed the life of one student and left four others injured.
The incident reportedly occurred around noon, sending shockwaves through the quiet community, located about 42 kilometers from Abuja’s city center.
Emergency responders, including the police bomb disposal squad, promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As of this report, the police have yet to issue an official statement, and the exact cause of the explosion remains unclear.
A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the deceased student was allegedly carrying a substance suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated. The explosion injured other students and caused panic in the area.
Efforts to reach school authorities for comment have been unsuccessful.
Reports indicate that the affected students were newly admitted to the school and had resumed just last Friday.
