Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation Fasin Yamma, have successfully neutralized eight terrorists during a counter-insurgency operation along the Kurfi–Batsari Road in Katsina State.

The encounter occurred on Wednesday, June 5, 2025, near the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kurfi, according to a statement released on Thursday by Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations.

Kangye confirmed that the troops swiftly engaged the armed terrorists in a prolonged gun battle, effectively thwarting their coordinated attack. The operation resulted in the elimination of eight terrorists and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition, including:

  • Five AK-47 rifles
  • Six AK-47 magazines
  • 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

While the operation marked a significant success, one Nigerian soldier sustained injuries and has since been evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for medical attention.

Kangye noted that the situation in the area remains under control, with troops maintaining high morale and operational effectiveness.

“The Defence Headquarters commends the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation,” he stated. “We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.”

This latest military success adds to a series of coordinated counter-terrorism operations across the North-West region, reinforcing the military’s resolve to rid the country of armed criminal groups.
