Two men have tragically died following a light aircraft crash near Ashbourne in Derbyshire, authorities have confirmed. The fatal crash occurred at the Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Racing Club just before 11:30am on Saturday.
The aircraft, believed to be a glider, went down at the racetrack approximately three miles from Ashbourne, prompting a large emergency response. Derbyshire police have confirmed that the families of the deceased have been notified.
“Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” a spokesperson for the police stated.
Emergency Services Respond to Aircraft Crash Near Ashbourne
Emergency crews were dispatched to the crash site at 11:25am. Firefighters from Ashbourne and Wirksworth fire stations initially responded, and resources have since been scaled back. However, fire crews remain on-site supporting Derbyshire Constabulary.
Authorities are urging members of the public to avoid the area while the investigation is underway.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has confirmed that a full investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.
“A multidisciplinary team of inspectors is en route to the accident site to begin a thorough investigation,” said an AAIB spokesperson.
The tragic incident near Ashbourne marks the latest in a series of light aircraft accidents in the UK this year, raising fresh concerns about aviation safety and prompting renewed calls for increased oversight in recreational flying.
