In a groundbreaking move to modernise agriculture, Governor Mallam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has flagged off the departure of 30 newly recruited “master technicians” to China for specialised training in agricultural mechanisation. The initiative is part of the state’s ambitious strategy to revolutionise farming through advanced technology and capacity building.

Speaking at the farewell event held at the Council Chambers of the Government House, Dutse, Governor Namadi highlighted the critical role of agriculture in Jigawa’s economy. - Establishment of Service Centres:
- 60 service centres have been set up across Jigawa State to support farmers with access to advanced machinery.
- These centres will enable farmers to hire tractors and other equipment at subsidised rates, ensuring affordability and accessibility.
- Procurement of Farm Machinery:
- The state government has procured 300 tractors, 60 combine harvesters, disc ploughs, sprayers, and other essential implements.
- 65% of the payment for the machinery has already been made, with the remaining balance expected to be cleared by the end of December 2024.
- Equipment deliveries are scheduled to begin by late December 2024 or early January 2025.
- Specialised Training for Technicians:
- The 30 technicians, comprising engineering graduates with agricultural engineering backgrounds, will undergo six to eight weeks of training in China.
- Upon their return, they will manage the service centres and ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the machinery.
- Comprehensive Capacity Building:
- Under the Jigawa Agricultural Mechanisation Support System (JAMSS), a total of 2,726 individuals will be trained in various specialisations, including tractor operation, fleet management, and service centre operations.
