In a bold political move, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has directed all state commissioners and political appointees to defect with him from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or immediately resign from their posts.
Speaking at a State Executive Council meeting in Uyo on Thursday, Governor Eno made it clear that his decision to switch parties was final, warning political aides that neutrality would not be tolerated.
“Anybody who claims not to know I’m leaving PDP is still living in the 18th century,” Governor Eno reportedly declared.
Eno to Align With President Tinubu, Signals June 6 Exit from PDP
According to insider sources, the Governor cited his admiration for President Bola Tinubu as a key reason for his political realignment and made it clear that loyalty to his new political direction was non-negotiable.
“I have admired President Tinubu from a distance, and I want to align with him,” Eno was quoted as saying.
He added that apart from elected officials such as state lawmakers and local government chairpersons, all appointed officials must defect or step down.
Eno also issued a veiled warning to those who might consider opposing him within the PDP:
“Anyone thinking they’ll use the PDP structure to fight me is mistaken. I will still control the PDP structure.”
Multiple sources have confirmed that Governor Eno’s formal defection to the APC is expected to take place on June 6, 2025, potentially ending the PDP’s 25-year reign in Akwa Ibom State.
