The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk, have paid heartfelt tributes to Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London.
In a statement issued by JNI Secretary-General, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, the Sultan described Buhari as a leader known for his simplicity, restraint, and calm leadership style.
“In all his roles, he remained devoted to ideals that promoted national growth,” Sultan Abubakar stated. “His tenure, like those of all leaders, faced challenges, but he consistently pursued efforts aimed at national development.”
He praised Buhari’s decades of public service and prayed, “May Allah (SWT) accept his good deeds, forgive his shortcomings, and grant him eternal peace.”
The Sultan also extended condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the nation at large, urging Nigerians to reflect on leadership as a trust that ultimately ends with divine accountability.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk, described Buhari’s death as a national tragedy and a profound loss to the people of Daura Emirate, Katsina State, and the entire African continent.
Speaking at his palace in Daura on Monday, the Emir said, “We have lost a true son of Daura, a symbol of honesty, and one of Nigeria’s most selfless leaders.”
He commended Buhari’s legacy in public service, anti-corruption efforts, and national security reforms, adding that “his commitment to truth, justice, and modest living will never be forgotten.”
The royal father called on Nigerians to uphold Buhari’s core values of unity, discipline, and national service, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Additionally, the Chairman of Daura Local Government, Alhaji Bala Musa, described Buhari as a principled man who lived a life of simplicity, Islamic devotion, and service to the nation.
“We in Daura feel a deep personal loss. He was our father, mentor, and a proud son of our land,” Musa stated. “His humility and integrity will remain a guiding light.”
Musa urged Nigerians to remain united and peaceful during this period of mourning, emphasizing the need to honor Buhari’s legacy through national cohesion and continued patriotism. NAN
