In an emotional moment during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, publicly apologized for errors in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Fighting back tears, Prof. Oloyede said, “I apologise for the trauma caused the candidates,” acknowledging the impact of the mistakes on thousands of students across Nigeria.
At the beginning of the briefing, the JAMB boss admitted to “one or two errors” during the conduct of the 2025 UTME. Although the full details of the issues were not disclosed, the registrar emphasized the Board’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ongoing improvements in the examination process.
The 2025 UTME, a pivotal examination for securing admission into Nigerian universities and tertiary institutions, has drawn significant attention this year due to reported technical glitches and scoring discrepancies, prompting widespread concern among candidates and parents.

Prof. Oloyede assured the public that all affected candidates would receive proper attention and that measures were being put in place to prevent future occurrences. He reiterated JAMB’s dedication to maintaining the integrity and credibility of the UTME process.
