The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a firm directive to security chiefs: end insecurity across Nigeria by the end of 2025 — swiftly and decisively.
Speaking in an exclusive interview for a forthcoming State House documentary to mark Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, the Minister emphasized that the administration is backing its security forces with unprecedented resources, morale-boosting initiatives, and strategic investments.
“President Tinubu is not making empty promises. He is strengthening institutions, improving morale, and increasing firepower to secure Nigeria. The goal is total victory over insecurity by the end of 2025 — and we are on track,” Badaru stated.
According to the Defence Minister, Nigeria is already witnessing a dramatic improvement in security:
- 13,543 terrorists and bandits neutralized
- 17,500 arrested
- 9,821 hostages rescued
- 24,000 terrorists surrendered
“These are not just numbers. These are lives saved, villages reclaimed, and communities restored,” said Badaru.
He cited major military operations like Operation Fasan Yama as instrumental in achieving peace in previously volatile zones, including Kaduna-Birnin Gwari, Zaria-Funtua-Gusau, and the notorious Abuja-Kaduna highway.
Troop Welfare Boosted, Military Strengthened Under Tinubu
To further empower the military, the Tinubu administration has:
- Doubled troop ration allowances (₦1,500 → ₦3,000)
- Cleared ₦18 billion insurance arrears
- Equipped troops with cutting-edge weaponry: attack helicopters, drones (UAVs), MRAPs, APCs, and more
“I’ve personally visited frontline bases to listen and boost morale. Life insurance now covers every soldier,” Badaru confirmed.
Defence Industry Reforms & Oil Security
The Minister also hailed the passage of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Bill, which has opened the door to local weapons production and over 100 new defence partnerships, both local and international.
“We’re assembling MRAPs in Nigeria. This is the beginning of true defence independence,” he said.
In the South-South region, the military has cracked down on oil theft and pipeline vandalism:
- Crude oil output increased from 1.4 to 1.8 million barrels per day
- 2,000 illegal refineries destroyed
- 5,000+ crude oil pits dismantled
- 6 ships involved in theft arrested
Badaru called for continued unity, patience, and trust in the administration, stating:
“Change doesn’t happen overnight, but the progress is real. Neutral observers can see it. The President’s commitment is unwavering.”
